November is here!

This week we started our volleyball and bowling units. Students were introduced to the units and given a study guide with all of the important information that they need to know before we start playing. The bowling FIELD TRIP will be at the end of November. Eighth grade students will go on November 28th and the seventh grade will go on November 29th.

Basketball tryouts were held last week and we now have our JV and Varsity basketball teams. I will be coaching girls intramural basketball this season and really hope to develop some of the necessary skills that will benefit everyone going into next year's season. We will have practice from 3-5pm everyday there is a home basketball game. The girls will be receiving a schedule by the end of this week.

How about those Green Bay Packers????!!!!! In a VERY exciting overtime game on Monday Night Football, Brett Favre yet again proved he is one of the best ever! On the very first play of the overtime period he threw an 82-yard bomb to Greg Jennings for the victory. Amazing!!! The Packers are now 6-1 going into Sunday at Kansas City.

Fitness and Football

We are well underway with our regular routine of fitness days in P.E. For sixth grade students, three days of the week are designated for a fitness warm-up. Seventh and eighth grade students participate in fitness two days a week. The sixth grade students have been doing an excellent job becoming more familiar with using their heart rate watches for the 10 minute run each week. The goal is for students to stay within the designated heart rate range of 150 to 190 for the full ten minutes.

Flag football has been going on for the previous two weeks for 7th and 8th grade students. The girls have been doing a wonderful job and I have been very impressed with the level of plays that each team focuses on during our class time.

Lastly, the JV Volleyball team concluded the season yesterday with a great win over Eisenhower in two games! Our overall record was 7-3. Excellent job this season ladies!

Volleyball Season

We only have two games left in our short 10-game volleyball season. Today we are away at Gower and next Tuesday, October 16th we play at home against Eisenhower. The girls have done an excellent job this season and hopefully we will be able to end our season on a winning note. Every single girl on the team improved their serving, passing and hitting skills and I am very impressed with how many developed positive leadership skills on and off the court. Nice job ladies and thanks for a great season!!

On another topic, the Chicago Bears beat my favorite team this weekend. It was a tough loss to take and I am hoping that when the Packers face the Bears in December it will be the Packers recovering all of those fumbles! Go Packers!

Welcome to October!

The school year has been flying by so far! As we move into October the 7th and 8th grade boys and girls will be starting their flag football units. For this unit the boys and girls play on separate teams with a focus on skill work and game play in each class. In 6th grade we are still working in our same fitness classes but then we switch over for our activity units. All of the sixth grade students received their heart rate straps and have all started practicing using their monitors.

The JV Volleyball team won last night against Cass. So far our record is 5-3! We have two more games in our 10 game season. Our last away game is next Wednesday, October 10th at Gower and then our final game is at home on Tuesday, October 16th against Eisenhower. Excellent work this season girls!

GO PACKERS!!! They take on the Bears this Sunday night at 7:15pm.
