Welcome Back!!!

Welcome back to Lakeview! I hope everyone had a wonderful summer. We are almost finished with our first FULL week of school!

So far this year in P.E. class, students have participated in fitness, indoor games and we are just beginning our first units of the school year. All seventh and eighth grade students are currently participating in the Track and Field unit. Students rotate each day between the track and field events. I have seen some great times in the 5o yd. dash! I'm sure that will continue with the 100, 200, 400 and 800.

All sixth grade students did an amazing job with adjusting to opening their new P.E. lockers. The sixth grade students also began their new units this week. Currently, Ms. Nyhlen's class is participating in field hockey, Mr. Dvorak's class is in track and field and Mr. Dodd's class is playing flag football. Keep up the great work!!!

Last Week!!!

Wow, how time flies! This upcoming week, will be the last full week of school for the year! There are many activities going on in all three grade levels next week, all of which will be fun and rewarding at the same time. All three grade levels will have their RJR breakfasts and field days, very well deserved! The eighth grade students will be cleaning out their lockers for the final time and also going on their boat trip downtown to Navy Pier.

I want to take this time to congratulate all of the graduates in the Class of 2010! This will be my first group of students that I have had all three years, so they definitely hold a special place in my heart. You have all been a wonderful group to teach and coach and you will be missed. Good luck to all of you as you begin to venture out into high school! I know you will represent Lakeview well and always remember the valuable lessons that you learned the past three years here.

Next week in P.E. classes we will be having our final tests of the year. 6th grade students will test in their respective units (badminton, soccer or softball), while 7th and 8th grade students will be tested on floor hockey and softball.

Let's finish out the school year strong! Have a great weekend!

Fitness Testing...

This week in P.E. classes we completed the Presidential Physical Fitness Tests. Each student received a score sheet where they recorded their scores in the following categories: Mile Run, Pull-Ups, Sit and Reach, Shuttle Run and One minute Sit-Ups. Students should show some type of progression compared to their Fall fitness scores.

Please check for these sheets this weekend and review the scores with your child. The signed fitness sheet will be collected on Monday in class.

Have a great weekend!

LV Softball Season...

This past week the softball team wrapped up their regular season with a 16-10 victory over Westview Hills M.S. The overall record for the Spartans this season is 3-4-1, which places us into the #5 seed for our tournament on Saturday, May 15th. The Spartans will take on Cass at 10:45am, in hopes of making it to the next round at 12:30pm. The tournament will be held at the Lemont Park District.

In P.E. classes, 7th and 8th grade students wrapped up their soccer and badminton units this past week. We will now be moving into our final two units of the school year: floor hockey and softball. Hopefully the weather will cooperate for us so that we can be outside for the next few weeks.

Good luck to the boys volleyball team in their conference tournament this Saturday, May 8th at Lakeview!!! Go Spartans!!!

Congratulations to the girls softball team on their 9-5 victory over Jefferson on Tuesday. Last night, the game at Cass ended in a 5-5 tie! Despite playing in a sandstorm, the girls battled and gave everything they had, but couldn't pull it out in the end. Overall, our record is 2-3-1. The last two games of the season will be on Monday, 5/3 and Wednesday, 5/5 AT LAKEVIEW. Come on out and support your Spartans!

Congratulations to the Girls Softball Team on their victory over Burr Ridge! The Lady Spartans won their first game of the season 9-0, with superb pitching from Megan S. (a complete game shutout), and great defense by all of the team. The Spartans jumped out to an early lead with 4 runs in the 1st inning and never looked back. Next week: Tuesday, 4/27 @ Jefferson and Thursday, 4/29 @ Cass. GO SPARTANS!

This week in P.E. class 7th and 8th grade classes continued with their Badminton and Soccer units. Each class also prepared for the mile run, by participating in two 15 minute runs. Students worked on pacing and breathing techniques to better control their heart rate during their run.

The sixth grade classes switched units on Wednesday and are now in a new unit of either badminton, soccer or softball. These will be the final three units for our sixth grade students. Let's finish out the school year strong! Have a great weekend!
